Companions of Serenity

Serenitas

Date: May 2025
Place: Fribourg, Switzerland

Companions of Serenity is an art installation designed for the garden of a palliative care center in Fribourg. As part of its 10th anniversary, the Serenitas Foundation launched an artistic call for projects, for which Companions of Serenity was selected as the winning proposal among several submissions.

The installation aims to enrich the outdoor space by creating a soothing, welcoming environment that encourages connection between residents, families, and visitors.

The artwork takes the form of life-sized animal silhouettes inspired by local wildlife, arranged around benches to create immersive and lively scenes. These installations invite visitors to sit, observe, interact, and create meaningful memories, transforming a previously underused area of the garden into a place of life and shared experience.

The aesthetic is intentionally simple, colorful, and accessible, following an inclusive approach adapted to the context of palliative care. Clean shapes and bright colors allow for immediate readability while providing a sense of comfort and emotional warmth.

Designed as a modular installation, the artwork can evolve with the seasons through movable elements, ensuring a constantly renewed visual landscape. Made from aluminum to guarantee durability, it combines artistic expression, functionality, and resistance to outdoor conditions.

Beyond its visual presence, Companions of Serenity carries a strong symbolic dimension: it accompanies visitors through sensitive moments by bringing lightness, poetry, and serenity, echoing the foundation’s mission — “adding life to days.”
